Time Traveler Circa 1977

Oh my goodness......1977...
Might as well have been 100 years ago....
Look at this bunch will you...
What would I tell that young man with the beard if I could travel back and meet with him?
The main thing would be to say..."Enjoy every moment because it will be gone before you know it."

Don't let your selfishness get in the way of being a father.
Don't wish your live away and at the same time do nothing to prepare for what lies ahead.

What does lie ahead?
Some dark times....
Some hard times....

Some good times....
Some happy times....

What about the little boy on the right? My oldest son...
I would probably be a bit more diligent in being a father than I was...
I'd love to tell him how things turn out in his life, but as Jack told us all in "A Few Good Men"...."You can't handle the truth!"

Oh, this little boy will grow to handle the truth and a whole lot more.
He will walk down paths that I never thought he would, and he would navigate them a lot better than I ever could.

What about the little guy in the middle?
Like his brother, he would take his place as an adult in ways that I never saw coming. Like his brother, he too would be viewed as a man of integrity and compassion. He would love deeply, and live life with a vigor and appreciation for the arts.

What about the person who took this photo?

That would be my wife....
The strongest, most unselfish women I've ever met.
She believed in me when I didn't.
She had faith in me when I didn't.
The love I have for her today pales in comparison to what I thought was love when this photo was taken.

This year we celebrate 48 years together...
Fifty if you count dating and engagement...
So where are the two of us headed?
Well, I think Buzz Lightyear stated it best....

"TO INFINITY AND BEYOND"

Yours truly,
M. Benton Bynum
